project description

Selfie

My work is the result of a constant exploration of how human beings interact with their environment. I get into the conflicts that mark that search for constant self-affirmation from the identity, the sexual, the political, the religious and the social. I use performance, staging, the use of the body, make up and other expressive methods to conceptualize from photography as a discursive resource. In the case of the series “Rostros” (2019-2020), I am interested in investigating from an eschatological perspective the situations we experience as individuals in the search for our identity.

project presentation

This is the concept

"Hello, my name is Yuri Obregón. I currently live in Havana, Cuba. I am a visual artist. I work mainly photography and in my work the use of the body is a constant since for me this is a conflict zone where we are totally free and can express ourselves in all its magnitude. That is what I am most interested in exploiting as a creator. In this case, I present a series that I started at the beginning of 2020 where I use the face as a dialogue channel to discuss the interaction with the other, with society and with the system. Here I use the performance, the self-portrait, where my body (my face) is modified through the use of makeup, costumes, masks and other accessories to be able to argue about the conflicts of the individual in their search for identity and the inner self from subjectivity and from my context as well as from my personal and creative experience. I am very grateful to participate in this project. I thank all the people who have made possible this great exhibition of which I am a part. Thank you very much."
