Alessandro Gallo

(Salerno, 1979)
Self-taught, the deep study of photography started in 2015, with transition from the concept of photography "just" like passion to a form of expression. Many of his pictures has to do with city landscapes and urban visions. Research and exploration of the places are seen like opportunity to give concrete shape to his thoughts. Moreover, he like to depict urban spaces to tell the story of a place, or to describe the changes caused by time or man. His works have been recognized in international awards, online magazines, gallery exhibitions and catalogs, and collected by a photographic foundation.

“You don't make a photograph just with a camera.
You bring to the act of photography all the pictures you have seen,
the books you have read, the music you have heard,
the people you have loved.”
(Ansel Adams)

Invisible Cities

This series was inspired by the book "Invisible Cities" by Italo Calvino Italian writer, and coming from the exploration of two cities important to me, Milan and Tokyo. To tell my vision, I quote a passage from the book, which he says:
“With cities, it is as with dreams: everything imaginable can be dreamed, but even the most unexpected dream is a rebus that conceals a desire or, its reverse, a fear. Cities, like dreams, are made of desires and fears, even if the thread of their discourse is secret, their rules are absurd, their perspectives deceitful, and everything conceals something else.”
